Made from walnut and maple, the board stands about 1-1/4” thick. The border is a laminate of walnut and maple and cut to miters to edge the board. The board can be played on either side. The checker pieces are made from the same maple and walnut stock. They were turned to a cylinder, cut into discs on the band saw and sanded smooth. The board and pieces were finished with Odie’s Oil. Like most folks, I underestimated the time I would need to make what I originally wanted to create. This will help springboard me to make the chess pieces I originally planned for this challenge.
