The Falls

The Falls is a 24″ x 36″ oil painting on stretched canvas. The palette is Mars Black, Prussian Blue, Burnt Umber, and Titanium White. I have been experimenting by starting with abstract shapes and exploring until I find a scene. I’ve never tried this technique on such a large scale, and so the beginning was troublesome. I ended up wiping it all down, close to giving up. Using Gamsol (paint thinner spirits) I pulled paint off to reveal shapes that resembled rocks and a waterfall. Using brushes and Bob Ross style palette knife techniques, I built the scenery. The total amount of time was about 4 hours. Thank you to the community for inspiring me to step outside my comfort zone!
